These Matryoshkas, also known as nesting dolls, are handmade and handpainted in Russia, where they expertly craft each set using only a single block of wood. (The cheap knockoffs you find in other stores are mass-produced on machines in China.) Collected the world over and played with by generations of Russian children, the nesting dolls have a rich history as storytelling props, symbolizing female relatives in tales told by mothers and grandmothers. This 5-piece set ranges in size from approx. 6" tall to 1 1/2" tall and features a green, gold, red, and black floral and berry design. Ages 4 and up.
