I gave these to a friend for her birthday, she fell in love with them. She is going to use them for cocktail napkins, really that is a good idea.

The girl with the "drizzly" nose
Once upon a time there was a little girl who had a drippy nose, eyes glued shut in the morning in hay fever season and just a really bad time with allergies and ear, nose and throat problems. Her grandma made her cute little bloomer type panties to match her cute little dresses and grandma always made a pocket in the panties for little Lee's handkerchieves. That was because even though very pretty ,she had this horrid, drizzly drippy nose sll of the time and she was not a little girl who did not tend to her nose. She was very particlular about that.
Years and years went by and she had five children and lived in many places and finally in lovely San Diego area, but no matter where she lived this problem with her nose followed her. So here she is at ninety on, allergic to keeenex or any tiissues and still never without a hanky close at hand. Those hankies come from the Vermont Country Store and she keeps up her suppy by ordering a dozen or two every year. (She does lose a few from time to time.) They are soft cotton with a pretty embroidery in the corner and not too expensive and to tell you the truth they are really a blessing you wouldn't believe. Nice handkerchieves are very hard to come by but VCS always has just the very thing you need or long for. Lee Rowe

I really enjoyed these hankies as well my mother. I divided them between us both. I bought the white ones so they could be used in church. My Mom was very tickled to get these on Mom's day, and they are so hard to find in my area--let alone pretty ones.

Passing on the Tradition
My mother gave my sister and I a hankerchief in our Christmas stocking every year. Once we moved out of the house, she continued the tradition by making sure there was a small box to open with a new hankerchief to add to our collection. My mom passed away very unexpectedly last November. Christmas came and there wasn't a box to open from my Mother with a hankerchief and we didn't even think about it at the time. But this year, I'm starting the tradition with my own daughter. It is something that belongs with Christmas; Mom and daughter bonding over their annual Christmas hankerchiefs.

A Hankering for Hankies
My niece got married in June 2012 and at the last minute we realized we had forgotten to buy the cloth handkerchief which we traditionally gift each bride in our family with to carry down the aisle. It was my job to find one and get it to the church on time. There were none to be found except at the local wedding shop where I ended up paying a ridiculous price for one.
I learned my lesson. With another niece's wedding planned for September 2012, I was thrilled to learn that Vermont Country Store carries just what I needed at a more than reasonable price. Not only was I able to get a beautiful handkerchiefâI ordered the 12-pak white on whiteâfor niece number two, but I have also begun enclosing one of these lovely cloth handkerchiefs in sympathy cards. And, of course, I've put some of them aside for my own use.

difficult to locate
it has become increasingly difficult to locate fine hankies. I crochet a lace edge on them and send them with birthday, anniversary, get well and sympathy cards for all my lady family and friends and now granddaughters. I get a lot of oohs and aahs and they get something pretty to use and remember their special day.

My favorite hankie for many years
I put these beautifully made handkerchiefs in my pocket instead of paper tissues. I rarely check pockets before clothes go in the washer and this way no lint!
They also make wonderful hostess gifts.
