Not what I expected.
I have been looking for a robe like this for a long time.
I have one that was a hand me down and I had it for over 10 years. When I saw this in the Vermont catalog I told my husband I had to order it. I read the comments and saw one about being a 'dust mop'...well I am one too. I ordered the burgundy robe, the nap is running the wrong way! I chatted on line with Vermont store to see about ordering a different color, in case it was just the burgundy ones with the problem. I was told they are all made that way and I could return it if I wanted to. I thought long and hard about returning it...but kept it. I have washed it twice hoping that would help to soften it, but it hasnt. I would not order another one.

Soft, beautiful and comfortable!
I lost most of my clothing, my home and both my cars in May, 2010, when Nashville, TN, and my area of Kentucky flooded, so all my favorite nightclothes were gone. I've just been replacing what I couldn't live without over the last two years. I decided to indulge in this pretty velour robe after Christmas this year and have found that IT was a necessity I didn't know I had to have!

Perfect
I needed something to wear after major surgery, but did not want the traditional belted robe. I wanted something I could curl up into that would stay closed. This was perfect. I could step into it and get it on without raising my arms over my head, which I could not do after surgery. It is warm, soft, beautiful, and perfect.

LUXURIOUS ROBE
I stepped into my beautiful emerald-green velour robe, and I felt like a queen. (actually, the queen-mother!). It is just what I need to stay warm during the chilly nights even in Oceanside, CA. I look forward to getting into my pj's and robe each night. The only problem I have is that it is not a petite, so it needed to be shortened about 5 inches. I wish that Vermont Country Store would offer some of their clothing in petite sizes.

Love this robe
This is the perfect robe for cooler weather. It is lightweight yet warm. It slips on easily - just step into it and zip it up. It has pockets for convenience. It's roomy. I'm not very tall and the length is perfect. It's a good quality and made well. I'm very pleased with this purchase.

Velour Robe Becomes Dust Mop
I awaited its arrival with great anticipationâa plush purple velour robe with handcrafted smocking! Wow, I almost couldn't wait. After all, it would be replacing a very durable velvet velour robe I have worn happily for 30 years, wearing it until the velour recently started to thin right off its under weave. Furthermore, the new robe would carry the mystique of my beloved Vermont. So just imagine my disappointment when after a couple days of wearing this beautiful garment I began to look like a dust mop instead of a queen! My husband was the first to notice something wrong when he reached out to sample the plush velour and instead of enjoying the silky soft plush as he ran his hands down my arms felt a roughness reminiscent of sandpaper. Together we investigated and found that this otherwise beautiful robe had been sewn together against the grain of the velour whose softness was subsequently available only when stroking the fabric from the bottom up. How very disappointing to be like a cat with its coat rubbed the wrong way! Having just thrown away my old velour robe, I thought, well, this is less than perfect but perhaps I can just live with this, after all I love the color and the beautiful smocking. But sadly as each day passed we noticed that my robe was picking up every piece of household lint as if I were a swiffer mop. To look normal in this robe I have to get out the masking tape roller and give it a thorough going over several times a day. I never had to do this with my other old robe, not once, and it was, I might add, a very dark teal. It readily shed micro debris in the course of being worn because it was constructed with the nap running in a convenient direction and was sumptuous and silky to the touch when rubbed. So even though I love this new royal purple robe from The (very wonderful) Vermont Country Store I am in despair now that I look like a dust mop instead of a queen. Are all your velour robes suffering this same mistake, or was mine just a fluke?

Warm and Cozy.
I gave this to my mom for Christmas. It's very well made and soft. I think it looks elegant and comfortable at the same time. She's very pleased with it.

Great find!
I bought this robe as a gift for my mother-in-law, who had previously told me that she has been unable to find a robe that falls all the way to the floor. This robe reminds me so much of the ones I used to buy every year for my own mother. It's very soft and cozy, and does fall right to the floor (my mother-in-law is 5'3" for reference). It's really a beautiful find. She told me that the one she received was defective in that one sleeve was attached to the shoulder with pleats so it was kind of "puffy," while the other sleeve wasn't. When I called the Vermont Country Store, they sent her a new one without question! I am just so impressed by the robe and by the great customer service.
