Starting a New Tradition
So many of our older folks have passed away, and I find myself - at the ripe old age of 65 - as being the oldest member of the family. Soooo, I thought I'd add the "pig" as part of our after Christmas dinner tradition. And being the head of the family, thought I'd add my own twist to our otherwise quiet traditions. Plus, a nice taste of peppermint is always good after a meal.

A New Family Tradition
We were intrigued by the idea of the Peppermint Pig. We bought one for each of our married daughters, our best friend and ourselves. We used ours after Christmas dinner and asked everyone to remember their best Christmas memory ever. There were lots of tears and hugs. Thanks!

I present this PIG to my allergist and his family each year. It has always been a tradition with his family, so this is my way to thank him for his great care of me.

A new Tradition from the old
We first ordered Noel the peppermint pig for Christmas 2011. And while they year was hard, (We all had a rough 2012) we are still here. My family referred to Noel often when times were the toughest, bringing a smile back to tearful faces. We had some left over and it was used over the year to help with upset tummies due to its high quality!
2012, though times were tight, the entire family agreed Noel needed to be part of our holiday traditions. We passed the velvet bag around and each family member spoke their hopes and intentions for the new year. We then shared the candy with smiles and sweet peppermint combined with joy and hope for the next year to come. Thank you for introducing it to my family!

Peppermint Pig makes the New York Times!
On the day I was presenting the Peppermint Pig as a Christmas gift, there was an article about the origin of the pig and custom in the NY Times. Excellent timing! So, I brought the pig to dinner and at the end of the meal, the six of us, including two pre-teens read the story and then proceeded to break up the pig with the hammer and state what we were grateful for. It was a smashing [pun intended] success. Great peppermint taste.
