Black Walnut Chips
hard nut to crack
I am fortunate enough to live in a place where many black walnut trees thrive. When I first moved here, I couldn't understand why hundreds of nuts fell to the ground, only to be run over or left to rot. Then I tried to peel, clean, dry and finally crack some... Wow. Fingers stained for days; squirrels making off with the goods (for free--with half the messy work done)... I clearly didn't know what I was doing, but I still knew I loved black walnuts and I wanted some! They're very hard to come by fresh--even here where they grow abundantly, and I'm just not up to the task of prepping them for eating. So, I was very intrigued to see that you offered a candy that had the singular flavor of black walnuts and decided to give them a try.
Not only are they pure black walnut-flavor (with no discernable salty, vanilla or maple-y taste that is so prevalent in many nut candies), they also have an old-fashioned, satiny HARD surface texture that reminds me of candies that my grandmother would occasionally have in her dish... almost 50 years ago. I didn't realize how much I'd been missing the feel of that kind of candy in my mouth! Each piece is a different size, too, making it fun to pick through the bag... which is really just an excuse to eat more.
Great product. I will definitely be ordering this again.

I ordered this candy for my husband after he found them here. He always had this candy as a child and loved it. It did not disappoint, it came in fresh and tasty, just as he remembered. The black walnut center was great.

long search.. ended successfully with Vermont Country Store
my Mom , who is 90, has been talking about this candy that she loved years ago, and could not find it anywhere. All she knew was that it had a candy shell, and walnuts in the middle. She absolutely Loved this candy from her past, and has mentioned to all of her kids that if they ever found this candy, to buy it for her... There were many candies through the years that I thought she was describing, and I would buy nit, and you could see the disappointment on her face when I would show her what I found. This year, I decided to search more thoroughly.. on the internet.. Asking her again for the best possible description of this hard to find treat, she again told me that it was white hard shell candy on the outside, and walnut in the middle. I looked and looked, and finally came to Vermont Country Store's site, and searched for it there, and I was amazed and thrilled to see exactly what she had described to me.I ordered some, and although it was very close to Christmas when I placed the order, I was surprised to see that it got here in time to give her as part of her gift. I wish you could have seen the look in her eyes when she opened the tin that I had placed the Black Walnut Chips candy in.. it was like she was taken back in time and was almost "giddy" when she told me that that was exactly what she was wanting. I did give her other , More expensive Christmas presents, but I have to admit , that I think , this long lost treat ... was her favorite. Thank you for helping her reunite with an old friend.

NO FILLING IN CHIPS
I was disappointed in the black walnut chips I purchased. I remember them as being chewy as you got thru the outer candy and the taste of walnuts came thru. Most has either no filling or so little you barely know it is there. I do not know if this is a bag that your QA Department missed or if this is how all of this product is. Thank you anyway.

Sweet Memories from Days Gone By
My husband loves black walnuts. As a young man this candy was his very favorite. We always bought several bags at Christmas since this was the time to find it. The last few years you could not find it until I saw it in your catalog a few years ago. I ordered him several bags and then last year couldn't find it again. Now I see it again so I am ordering him some as a surprise Christmas gift. You should see his eyes roll back in his head from the pure enjoyment of this tasteful treat from way back when.
