Ice Breaker Mat

Say Good-Bye To Icy Steps

We Vermonters have learned a few things about winter. Icy steps and doorways are hard to chip clean, and using salt and sand wears them down. That’s why we just love this ice breaker mat. Attach to your dry, clear stairs and doorways; when ice forms, step on the mat, and the ice breaks up. Then just kick it or sweep it away. Remove in the spring or leave on for year-round slip resistance. Use multiple mats together for landings and walkways. Stair mat, 8¾"x36". Doormat, 24"x36".

  • Just step on the mat and ice breaks up
  • Available in stair mat and door mat
  • May be left on year-round

Ice breaker mat keeps stairs and doorways ice free without shoveling or sanding.

No More Slip/sliding Away! This is my second purchase of Ice Breaker Mats. Previously I had them for outdoor stairs. With this purchase, the mat fits on the driveway at the base of the stairs. Perfect! January 28, 2013
Flimsy mat requires silicone to attach to concrete I was disappointed with this mat and had to return it. The instructions on the package say it requires silicone to attach it to our concrete front step. There is no way to do this in winter. It is flimsy and would just blow away. The surface seems like it would be quite slippery. January 12, 2013
A product that really works I bought one of these treads to try. Right afterwards we had an ice storm and the tread worked amazingly well. I've ordered two more! I also want to say that customer service is outstanding. January 5, 2013
Great Mats I have had mine for years, when my mom moved out to her own place, I purchased some for her.. They work well, no fear about slipping on the steps due to the ice. December 31, 2012
Bust the ICE, not your NECK! Five Stars!!!!! Repainted my porch and wood steps this fall. Can you guess what I put down on my wood steps? This year I'll be walking on sunshine instead of ICE! If you live in the RUST BELT like I do in Illinois, these are a must have item! November 6, 2012

What Our Customers Are Saying about Our Ice Breaker Mat …

"We got these stair mats after we saw them at a friend's house and got their testimonial. We find them to do just what they say -- they keep your steps safe and dry -- just sweep clean with broom. We are thinking of getting the doormat now." - Pamela peverini, Bar Harbor, ME

"We purchased mats for our front stoop and step, and these are great for safety! We just step on the mat -- the ice breaks and we can just sweep it off! Even with a lot of snow, the mats can be cleaned easier than the brick stoop without them." - Mary Wright, Ithaca, NY

"I ordered only two of these initially because I was a bit skeptical. They are fantastic. After one day with one, I ordered 11 more -- and today I ordered the doormat. We had 8" of snow yesterday, and the steps with these mats just brushed right off. The other steps required the usual shovel, lift, and throw." - Margi Swett, Woodbury, VT

"I tried these because we have an entrance where the roof drips directly on the second step, which creates a hazardous mound of ice in the winter. I admit, I was skeptical about these . . . they looked rather cheaply made, and it seemed like those "as seen on TV" cheesy ideas, but I was desperate. After using them, what a difference! No more pounding (and damaging) the wooden steps with a metal ice chipper so someone doesn't break their neck. The ice does build up around the edge, but it is a huge improvement. I have been using these for about four seasons now, and one has worn through on the front edge where feet step, but other than that, they have held up better than expected. My only complaint is that I wish they were longer: They only cover about two-thirds of my stair tread width." - Susan, Lake City, PA

"We got these at the beginning of the winter. I had my doubts, but I have to say that they really do break up the ice. We don't need to use ice melt on the stairs any more. I feel more secure walking on the stairs now." - Laura, Lexington, MA

"Our back stairs are a gorgeous cascade of ice in the winter. For 34 years, we suffered trying to get down them. These mats are incredible. You step on them, move the ice away, and voila! You can get to the bottom without killing yourself on the cement. We use the mats down the path to the garage where the path finally clears. Bring on the ice and snow!" - Rosemary Berntson, Providence, RI

"Love these mats and treads!!!!!! They work wonderfully!!!! Not only do they work, but are also comfortable to walk on. At times they can be slippery if certain precipitation hits the - Just go easy. As for ice, just sweep it away!! Great for my Jack Russells that come barreling up the stairs and on the porch." - Mary, Oneida, NY

"we have used your product for about six years and this year we have had to rebuild our steps. Imagine our happiness as we were able to buy the same product we purchased then. In this fast moving world of newer and and so called better products we are not always able to find reliable products such as yours that do the job perfectly. Sincerest thanks to Vermont Country Store." - Mary Elliott, Orrington, ME

"We have five wooden steps leading up to our front porch. One big fear every winter is that my wife will fall down them in the winter I ordered these mats and installed them. This week we had our first snow and ice and they work just as you say. These are worth every penny." - Jim, Geneva, OH
