Oldie but Effective My mother had one many years ago, now my wife has problems with opening jars, works perfect. Oldie but effective April 19, 2015
Just Like the One Mama Had My Mama had a jar opener just like this when I was growing up. As a child, I could open even the tightest jars. I don't have any idea what happened to it after she passed away because Daddy kept everything. I called my sister and brother and asked them if they took the jar opener. Neither did, so when I saw this one in your catalog, I had to order it. I like this opener better than any I've ever tried. March 24, 2015
Poorly engineered copy of excellent old product We had one of the originals of these for years and it worked very well. When it wore out a couple of years ago we couldn't replace it so eagerly ordered yours when it became available. Sadly it doesn't work at all on smaller sized caps even though it is designed to adjust to those sizes. It could be that the gripper surfaces aren't sharp enough to properly grab small caps or more likely the gear mechanism is the wrong ratio. Unfortunately we don't have our original to compare. My theory is that the gear wheel is much too large in diameter to provide enough grip leverage for small caps. We didn't send it back because it works ok on larger caps. March 2, 2015
A Jar Opener that actually works My Mom bought one of these, 65 years ago. My sister has it now; still working great. Over the years, I have tried and thrown out many openers that did not live up to their promise. I was delighted to see one in your online store. January 22, 2015
Well Made, but.. it doesn't work with the smaller plastic lids/caps (tried to open a 20 oz milk bottle without success). For metal lids, it works well and make the opening process much easier. And even though it is made in China, it appears to be well constructed of wood and metal. January 8, 2015
Glad to know a replacement is available I have a green-handled version of the original. I am in my 60's and this jar opener was ALWAYS in my family's utensil drawer as long as I can remember. (I always wondered if it came from Texas with my grandmother.) When we moved from Long Island to Vermont, of course it came with us. My husband and I would be lost without it. Do you have any information on the origins of this product? The original manufacturer? I would be very interested to know as I feel whomever first designed it must be an American original and probably has an interesting story. September 8, 2014
This jar opener does not work I tried this on smooth lids, ridged lids, small and large lids. No matter what I did, all the opener would do is slide around on the lid. I am back to releasing the air pressure by taking a can opener under the lid, and then twisting the lid by hand. August 4, 2014
