We Vermonters have learned a few things about winter. Icy steps and doorways are hard to chip clean, and using salt and sand wears them down. That’s why we just love this ice breaker mat. Attach to your dry, clear stairs and doorways with nails, staples, or weather-resistant adhesive; when ice forms, step on the mat, and the ice breaks up. Then just kick or sweep it away. Remove in the spring (depending on the method you choose to secure the mats to your stairs or walkways) or leave on for year-round slip resistance. Use multiple mats together for landings and walkways. We offer the mat in 2 styles: the stair mat, 8¾"x36", and the doormat, 24"x36". Each style is sold individually.

  • Step on the mat and ice breaks up
  • Ice easily sweeps away
  • Choose a stair mat or door mat; each sold individually
  • Attach to stairs and doorways with nails, staples, or weather-resistant adhesive

Rated 5 out of 5 by Just as good as advertised! 11 years of being nervous about slipping on the steps are over. I was skeptical, but the mats are wonderful! I can't speak to their durability, because I've only had them a couple of months, but so far, so good! My one reservation was that occasionally I use "grippers," the metal teeth you put on the bottom of shoes for ice, and I know I can't wear them on the ice breaker mats. I've found that it's no big deal putting them on and taking them off at the bottom step on the rare occasions they're necessary. Well worth it, to be able to relax on the stairs. My little dogs are much more comfortable, too. January 11, 2017
Rated 5 out of 5 by So true....say good-bye to icy steps! Just love these mats! We just had our first snow storm for the season here in NY, mixed with rain and ice and these mats were just great. Once the storm was over, went out and with the end of a broom, I bang the mats and the ice crack off which I just swept off, so easy. I did staple them to the wood steps, (10 steps) leading to my covered porch, as recommended. So grateful and happy with these mats. December 17, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by After 9 upstate NY winters With a driveway 8 wooden steps below my door and balance issues from a stroke, I have found Ice Breaker Mats to be the perfect solution to problems going from driveway to house in the stormy winters we have here in upstate NY. Friends tacked them to the wooden steps in 2007 and I never took them off. I found they were helpful when navigating rainy or leaf strewn steps in other seasons. Since a snowy winter is forecast, I think it's time to replace them and practically guarantee a safe winter. September 19, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Ice breaker mat I have a gutter over my back door that makes a treacherous ice blob on the very first step. I did not have a chance to nail it down or otherwise attach it, so I laid it over the existing thin ice. The next morning, I simply picked it up and poured off the ice chips on top of the mat. The ice was still under the mat of course, but I could walk on the mat to get down the steps! I love it! I plan on getting another for the front door! And I will definitely get it attached as the existing ice goes away. February 20, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Solution to a Dangerous Problem I intsalled these just in time for Winter Storm Jonas. We had over two feet of snow, and these stair treads performed flawlessly. They were easy to clear (with a plastic shovel, not metal) and we have been able to keep our outdoor steps clear of ice and blown snow since. In past years, we have always had an accumulation of ice and snow on the steps, but no longer. I just wish I had known of these sooner. January 29, 2016

Rated 5 out of 5 by Ice Breaker Mats are the answer! The stairs I use everyday face North. Once they get ice on them, they're treacherous until Spring. I've used Ice Breaker Mats continuously in the Winter for many years. They're sturdy & longlasting. I've only had to replace mine once in all these years. The Microspikes that I'd put over my boots to walk on ice had mistakenly been left on when I ran down the stairs (oops!) January 26, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by These mats work excellent I live in Colorado, elevation of 6500 ft. in the foothills of Fort Collins, Colo. city elevation 4800 ft. We do get our share of snow; from 8 inches to 30 inches in a 24 hour time span. We bought 12 stair mats to get to go up our front deck steps and a large mat for our front door 6 year go after dealing with 12 years of snow and icy steps of trying to clean and reclean the stairs from snow and ice. These are a BLESSING and do work! Our front deck and door face north so we get wind and snow to deal with. I go out and sweep the snow and when icy, walk on them and sweep clean. I did staple them to the stairs, and deck and they're still there, and looking like NEW. These matts are up YEAR ROUND and still in great condition. These matts are GREAT! Thank you for a excellent product! January 12, 2016
