While we certainly appreciate the speed and technological ease that computers offer, we just couldn’t let go of our portable typewriter with the soothing clickety-clack of its keys, workhorse reliability, and the fact that it types at a pace that lets us think. It’s true, we don’t anticipate selling many of our portable typewriters to the computer-savvy crowd, but we might be wrong about that. Like the magic of reading a printed book or magazine, there's a certain romance to composing letters or drafting your first novel on an old-school manual typewriter. Features include a full-sized keyboard, variable line spacing, a backspace key, space bar, and ribbon selector. Rugged steel construction, sturdy plastic housing and carrying case. Approx. 15½"Wx12½"Lx4¾"H.

Manual typewriterIt is solidly built, but I have returned it for refund because it just was too much work to use, the keystrokes tended to be too faint, keys would sometimes jam, and I had to back and hit twice to get a good impression on some letters.
It wasn't the quality I had hoped it would be. After the refund, I might buy the electric one.
The case that came with it is very nice, I thought.

I just returned the portable typewriter I orderedI just returned the manual portable typewriter that I just ordered from you. The service I had was excellent as usual. However, I am very sorry to say, I found the typewriter and case tacky, plastic, and cheap looking. I had no sense this was a product to last very long. The case locks were so flimsy, I had a tough time getting them to open. I would never trust the typewriter to stay safely in the case if I were carrying it.
The typewriter itself was poorly made.....the return lever was flimsy, the keys did not feel solid when I typed, the cover was also flimsy.
The whole ensemble just was not worth the amount of money I paid....especially compared to the Olivetti manual typewriter that I bought from you 30 plus years ago.....that one, including the carrying case, was solidly built to last for many years. In fact, it is still sitting in my closet in my home in Vershire, but because of family illness I have had to be here in Indiana without either a computer and printer or typewriter in order to write snail mail. So I thought I'd buy another thpewriter, like that one, from you. What a disappointment!
Sorry to send you bad news when almost everything from your store is very helpful and appreciated. You aren't doing so well in getting in a good denim jumper.....and you haven't yet gotten in nylon watch bands which I have hoped you'd carry for many years. Have requestedthis product many times...maybe some day.

Love Vermont Country Store, but NOT this typewriterThis typewriter felt very cheap and flimsy and was very hard to use. You really had to punch the keys to get it to type. It also was defective - the space bar didn't work. But on the plus side Vermont Country Store was fabulous about the return and my refund.

DisappointmentI was looking forward to using a manual typewriter. They are difficult to find. I grew up using my mother's typewriter, and wanted to spend less time in front of a computer screen when I write (for a hobby).
I am disappointed with this typewriter because the housing materials feel overly fragile and the keys do not move smoothly. The owner's manual is paltry and unhelpful for a newer typewriter user.
The eggshell color is lovely, and the weight is lighter than I'd imagined. I feel this is truly an old-fashioned typewriter, but not a high-quality model.

my penpals appreciate thisI wanted to put letter writing back into my life, and since my "real life" friends aren't as enthusiastic I joined a penpal organization. My handwriting has gotten horrible over the years - so! A typewriter! This is a great typewriter, has become a dear friend to me, and I am so glad Vermont Country Store had it, as well as the ribbons for it. Computers and printers - when it comes to letter writing, there is such a disconnect. But the typewriter helps the letter writing be that much more of a special occasion.

AwesomeFor the past several years I've been wanting to get a manual typewriter. I'm tired of using a computer for writing stories because after a while my eyes start getting irritated from staring at the computer screen. None of the typewriters I found in other websites seemed to catch my attention, but when I saw this one I knew that's the one I needed to get. I got it right away. I am so happy with it. I can type for a couple of hours and my eyes don't get irritated and also I don't get distracted as with a computer. I love this store and will continue to purchase more things.

great manual typewriterThe Vermont Country Store is a great place to go for unusual items. Whereas a manual typewriter was easily available years ago, such is no longer the case. I wanted one so as to be independent of electricity and I finally found it at the Vermont Country Store. It is easy to carry around and easy to use.
