Gilhoolie Jar Opener
Mom was right!
When I got married in 1979, my mother gave me a Gilhoolie, saying, "I don't know how I would run a kitchen without one." I agree with her! It opens every jar with ease. And it is a delight to me to be able to give the brides of my acquaintance a Gilhoolie of their own. I'm so glad you are carrying them again.

Gilhoolie jar opener
I'm 86 and thought this device would be an answer to an old woman's annoyance at opening bottles etc. Not so. It might just take some more studying, but I find it difficult to use and I don't need that. I'll work with it a little more, but it is very close to being packaged for return.

My wife and I have purchased several openers over the years. The Gilhoolie is the first that works on everything that we have tried. Sometimes an old idea is the best idea!

Bad Riveting Job
The Gilhoolie Jar Opener I received has the rivet that slides on the handle pressed to tight I will probably have to remove it and put one in myself to get it to work the way it is designed to. When you get the manufacturing of this item worked out it will be a wonderful product.

Thank you Vermont Country Store for offering the Gilhoolie Jar Opener; I have been looking for this item for years....the openers that are available today are not comparable; the quality is great. My parents were married in 1937 and one of my earliest memories is my mother using her Gilhoolie...she was still using it until she passed away in 1998. Apparently; it was thrown out as the house was being emptied; no one is owning up to having it. I was flipping through your catalog a few weeks ago; and there is was, "the Gilhooli." I immediately ordered 3; one for my daughter and two for me. My daughter was delighted, as she remembers her grandmother having and using her Gilhoolie. We shed a few tears; when we opened the package, brought back great memories. I would recommend the Gilhoolie to anyone and especially persons with diminished grip. In the future, I will purchase it as part of a bridal shower gift. Again; thank you Vermont Country Store, for offering such a wonderful array of items.

I have had one for years and it is so helpful I thought I would give them to others.
It will open a large range of sizes and always works.
I need to have one in my car so that on long trips, I can open bottles.

I've reached an age where jar/bottle openers are needed. So I have a few of them, and most of the time one or the other seems to work.
However the smaller jar openers that need prying some to break the seal are the hardest to open with any of them.
So I got this gilhoolie for those. This gismo has two pryers, one at each end. Yes! Grateful for those! And it has the middle section which is variable and can be made to fit different tops. This is the part I've not yet mastered - so the four star recommendation is more for my ineptness than the product.
I'm finding I'm slower to learn new things or products. Which tells me I've "slipped" out of middle age. I've stopped asking what I want to be when I "grow up." Not so happy about this.
But I just love the name Gilhoolie, so I don't expect to give up on it. Glad it's in my house, and it has been a lifesaver re. opening something twice now.
It has its own name...not just thing-a-ma-jing. I like that.
As one ages, little things can mean more.
