Rated 5 out of 5 by Crisp comfort The sheets are crisp and comfortable. These are the ones I'll stick with from now on. November 10, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Finally a thicker old style sheet We had been looking for thicker and crisper sheets. We had purchased expensive "soft as satin" type and found them to be very thin and most of them pilled up and we had two that were easily ripped by my husband's calloused feet. These sheets are very thick and crisp. They will wrinkle if left in the dryer, but it's a small price to pay for these thicker sheets. Finally! October 1, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by A tale of two sheets In 2012 I purchased my first Clothesline Crisp Sheets. They were smooth and substantial, cool and comfortable and have worn well. I use them today. In 2015 I purchased a second set. The fabric is remarkably different. They arrived stiff and scratchy. Six months later, any sizing has washed away. Yet the sheets remain rough to the touch and the fabric is light in weight. The present day sheets are not your grandmother's sheets. Both sets fit well and are on grain, so that they don't twist when hung on the line. September 19, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best sheets ever. Love to get into bed with crisp white line dried sheets. Was raised with them. Thanks for carrying them. Had a hard time trying to find them. September 17, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Exactly as described These sheets are just what I wanted. They are lovely and crisp. I hung them on the clothesline to dry so they may be less crispy from the dryer. Nice and thick and great quality. September 16, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great Sheets - But Still Not Like Grandmother's Second time coming to Vermont Country Store for these wonderful crisp sheets. These sheets are cool and crisp, and I like them very much. They still aren't the wonderful hefty, crisp, quality percale of yesteryear that so many of us long for. I would like to see the sheets and cases sold as separates. I need some extra fitted sheets, and I don't use king pillows, nor does anyone else I know. I always have to shorten the pillow cases to make them fit standard/queen pillows. September 14, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by These ARE the comfy crisps sheets of your childhood I love these sheets! I'm very surprised to see the negative comments about these sheets. I am about to order my third set--these are the only sheets I use at home in my own bed. I don't care what the process is for making these sheets crisp (not stiff). I just know that on a summer evening they are cool when I slip into bed and don't crumple up during the night. They stay smooth and, yes, crisp, when I make the bed, almost like they had been lightly starched and ironed. Just like the sheet I remember from my childhood. They don't pill, and the pillowcases retain their shape. If you are looking for a soft, or satiny sheet, you can find them in any home goods store. Buy if you want bed linens like Mom and Grandma had, you have found them here. September 13, 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 by Not exactly what we all seem to think these are So, on the search for crisp linens, I know they are properly constructed as a Percale weave. In fabrics there are two major features; a) the construction and b) the finishing. The true weave of a percale is closely woven plain-weave with higher thread counts ( 200+) and is noticeably tighter/smoother than other weaves, such as sateen, which has more threads on the face for a smoother feel. HERE we seem to have a fabric that has a finishing technique that allows the very loose weave, to be occluded or filled-in with a slub like fill that will not last. These come out of the box so stiff, it would never be pleasurable to have this against your skin. Of the three sets we ordered - one received a gentle wash, and came out just as stiff. the second received a strong amount of detergent (Tide) and a little bit of Clorox II. These were then washed a second time, with no products - only water. These came out very "deconstructed" and without any stiffening at all. This confirms my magnified observations of the loose weave with some filler/slub in between the threads. Please know that a true percale is made of combed, and then carded yarns before they are spun into threads. This process allows the smooth threads, again woven tightly to produce a crisp hand. It is lighter in weight, and somewhat counter-intuitively, more stiff, paper like, or crisp with a matte finish. It is wonderful to sleep under, especially when ironed with a little starch. THIS is what my Grandmother's sheets were like, clothesline or not. I am very disappointed in this product - and after washing, cannot return them. They are heavy, and very stiff, not the unique lightweight paper-like feeling I was expecting. This is because the fibres were probably not combed/corded, and then spun very thickly - with alot of space between to allow the additive product to be applied for the stiffness. It's unfortunate that I trusted many reviews - and product description, without researching the real facts. Look for Egyptian Combed Cotton Percale sheeting with a thread count of 200(nice) to 400 (better). The higher thread count merely means they can/did use thinner threads to weave inot a square inch, and in this case that is all the better - even lighter fabric, with even tighter weave for that special crisp hand. I will update once I launder the subsequent brand I have just received. September 5, 2015

What Our Customers Are Saying about Our Clothesline Crisp Sheet Set …

"The feel of these sheets is so rare - crisp, dry, cool in the summer, toasty in cooler weather. We also love the sound of these sheets as they rustle and crackle under the blanket. So glad we found them at The Vermont Country Store!" - Ilze, New Orleans, LA

"I love these sheets so much, I ordered a second set. With every wash they get softer. I love the crisp and pure cotton feel." - Barbara Burg, Panama City, FL

"Sooooo happy to find these. I've gone to great lengths to try and find crisp sheets. Even with the clothesline ban I dry my sheets outside on a clothes rack. (And, at one time I did have an illegal line my husband put up on the patio.) I do not dry my sheets in the dryer. Thank you, thank you, thank you for these wonderful sheets." - Barbara Brown, Reseda, CA

"These are the best sheets EVER. I need to buy more since I never want to sleep on anything else. I just wish you could get extra pillow cases." - Amanda, Schenectady, NY

"For 20 years I've been looking for percale sheets like those my mother used. These sheets are that same smooth, cool fabric that I remember. Other high-thread-count fabrics do not come close to the comfort of this percale. I'll be thanking you every night of my life." - Janet, Perryville, MD

"I finally found the sheets I've been looking for!! I have purchased all-cotton sheets from another catalog for years, but they have changed of late. The fitted sheet is so deep that it is always wrinkled and messy-looking. Not all of us have 18-inch mattresses, for heaven's sake. Who needs an 18-inch mattress anyway, for that matter? But these clothesline crisp sheets fit my "much too big mattress" with a taut snap!! Yahoo... I have only washed them once, and could not put them outside due to all the oak pollen, but I know that they will be a wonderful addition to my linen closet. Many, many thanks!!" - Deborah, Alexandria, VA

"I love these sheets! They feel like the ones I grew up with. I just wish the top sheet was about a foot longer because of the deeper beds. I'm planning on buying more!" - karen warner, richmond, TX

"I am buying my second set. I have been searching for crisp sheets; love them. Now I need you to sell the pillow cases separately, in addition to the set, so I can buy extra." - Maureen, Winchester, MA

"These are absolutely the best sheets ever! I am slowly going to collect as many sets as I can so I never have to use another kind. Terrific product that everyone should have! Thank you, VCS!" - Susan, Orange, CT

"These are fantastic! Potential buyers should understand that "crisp" does not mean "harsh." These sheets are, in fact, gloriously comfortable, they just have some body to them. Outstanding product at a great price!" - C. Swope, Churchville, VA

"I've been searching for years and years for these sheets. I love them so much that I ordered more for myself and some for my son and his wife. I will probably get more because if you stop selling them I'll never find them again. The only place I slept on these kind of sheets recently was in Italy. High-thread-count sheets are vastly overrated. They lack the thick, rich feel of the Clothesline Crisp sheets. I look forward each night to climbing into bed with these sheets. It's like heaven. Thank you !" - CAROL ANN CASEY, Huntington Station, NY

"I am an admitted sheet-a-holic! I have more sheet sets than I can count... and I no longer use any of them! These sheets are the only ones I'll put on my bed! I have waited awhile to write this because I wanted to be sure they'd keep their crispness through several washings and a lot of using... and they do! I'm very fussy about my bedding and these sheets are by far the best I've ever found. If you're thinking about it, think no longer... just order!"- Barbara Richards, Miami, FL

"The Clothesline Crisp White Sheets are the best!! The slender style was perfect for my antique bed. I agree with others that I would love to be able to purchase additional pillowcases."-Diane, Fultonville, NY

"These sheets are fantastic! I've just ordered my second set- so glad they now come in colors, too. They feel just like I remember from my childhood. Sheets like these are the reason my sisters and I used to call clean sheet day "wiggly night." They feel so crsip and fresh . Yes, I do hang them out to dry- weather-permitting!" - Erin Jones, West Winfield, NY

"I hesitated to buy these for quite some time - mainly about the cost - but once I tried them, I absolutely love them and know they are worth every penny. I can't wait to hang them outside (it's cold here in Maine)!" - Josephine Libby, East Machias, ME

"I had sheets like these when I went to college in the early 1960s. We didn't have fitted sheets back then. I used to hang them lengthwise on a clothesline in the dormitory laundry room after washing. They always dried flat and smooth as if they were ironed. These Clothesline Crisp Sheets remind me of that. I may even put a clothesline in my garage to hang dry them." - Rosalind Rogoff, San Ramon, CA

"These are the best! They really are just like the old-fashioned comfortable sheets of yesteryear. I have a few percale sheets handed down to me from my mother but they were not fitted and were sized for a 3/4 bed. Loved them so much though that I used them occasionally. When I saw the Clothesline Crisp Sheets in your catalog, I doubted that they really could be anything like Mom's. To my happy surprise, they are. I use no other now; just wash them and put them right back on the bed. Will be getting another set soon." - Diane, Fultonville, NY

"Yes, we love these sheets! They just keep getting better and better with every laundering - smoother and softer to the touch, yet still crisp. The fit of the bottom sheet is superb. We just wish the queen size top sheet was larger to provide a more generous side drop and tuck-in at the foot." - Kay, Sherman Oaks, CA

"I just ordered my third set of these wonderful sheets. I was skeptical at first because I have not found a smooth, crisp cotton sheet in years. They are perfect and make for the best night's sleep. I always dry them outside. That fresh-air smell along with the crisp cotton feel makes for a great night's sleep! I will not have any other sheets on our beds. Our guest enjoy them, too!" - Michele, Springfield, VA

"So thankful to find these sheets!! We have spent tons of money on more expensive sheets promising the same crisp feel, and while they were crisp and had the exact feel we were looking for originally, they have since changed their fabric formula, and now have a similiar touch, will not hold up to use, i.e., washing!! (holes and rips). Hopefully these sheets will not disappoint - so far we are very pleased. Will definitely order more IF they stand up to use!!" - Susan Wyatt, Florence, SC

"These sheets are THE best! My husband was skeptical when I purchased these sheets that they would maintain the level of crispness. But you have made him a believer. I would highly recommend these sheets to anyone who remembers Mom's sheets." - Laura McConnell, Eastford, CT

"I, too, am ordering my second set of these great sheets. Wonderfully comfy. I am so tired of the used-Kleenex feel of the high thread count sheets." - Sue Hoffman, Jackson, WY
