Since the best grade of maple syrup is the one you like best, we thought you might like to do a side-by-side taste test, just like the master sugarmakers do when they grade each batch of syrup. From light to dark, each bottle in this replica of a traditional Vermont grading sample kit contains one of 4 grades of 100% pure Vermont maple syrup, ranging from Vermont Fancy (also known as Grade A Light Amber), to Grade A Medium Amber, Grade A Dark Amber, and Grade B, a true Vermonter’s favorite with its hearty maple flavor and deep molasses color.

Early season sap produces the lightest, most delicately flavored syrup, while darker, more richly flavored syrup is produced when temperatures rise toward the end of the spring “sugaring” season. It’s important to note that grades do not indicate quality; instead, they denote color and taste differences.

Whichever grade you prefer, you can enjoy 100% pure Vermont Maple Syrup with the sweet satisfaction in knowing that it’s one of the few foods indigenous to North America, and that it’s naturally free of additives, preservatives, artificial colors, and high fructose corn syrup. 4 1.7 oz. bottles

  • Vermont Fancy or Grade A Light Amber has a delightful mild maple flavor
  • Grade A Medium Amber is known for its classic maple flavor and amber color
  • Grade A Dark Amber has a hearty maple flavor and deep amber color
  • Grade B has the richest, most robust maple flavor and deepest amber color

The Vermont Country Store takes pride in our selection of 100% pure Vermont maple syrup. One taste and you’ll see why so many Vermonters prefer maple syrup as their sweetener of choice, pouring it over pancakes, mixing it into muffins, and whisking it in dressing and sauces. Take the sample challenge and decide which flavor makes the grade for your taste buds.

Great variety of syrup! As midwesterners we do not have the chance to know the variety of real maple syrups without buying large bottles and even then the choice is very limited. With this sampler we were able to taste test a wide variety and find that it really doesn't take much real maple syrup on a pancake to give it a great taste. One small bottle was enough for my husband and me for four pancakes! December 27, 2014
Our Own Family Traditions Maple syrup has been a part of my family always. When my parents moved to VT they began making their own (even steaming off the kitchen wallpaper before taking the boiling of the sap out of doors). None of us live in VT now but our hearts go their often. These syrup samplers are gifts for my family and will be gladly received and enjoyed. Thanks for packaging them this way. April 7, 2014
A fun experience We have been in search of a new table syrup ever since our local store stopped carrying the brand we like. I ordered this sampler as a Christmas gift for my husband. Christmas morning we enjoyed a nice leisurely breakfast of Vermont Country Store buttermilk pancakes and sampled each of the syrups. It was a lot of fun. Our runaway favorite was the Grade A Dark Amber, it had just the right balance of maple flavor and sweetness. For us, the Fancy did not have enough maple flavor, the Grade A Medium Amber had good maple flavor but was far too sweet. My husband liked the Grade B for occasional use, but I found the maple flavor to be a bit strong for a table syrup, I could see using it for cooking or baking though. December 29, 2013
bought as a gift I bought this 4 bottle package as a gift for a good friend and I don't know if she has opened it yet. I'm sure it's good, since it's syrup from Vermont and I know that is very good syrup. November 19, 2013
Good for those of us who know nothing about maple syrup I ordered the maple sampler to taste different grades of syrup before deciding what to buy in larger quantities. They were all delicious but I preferred the two grades in the middle range. My husband liked the B grade, the strongest flavor, best. The fancy was very nice but it is very light, very delicate and would be lost in baking I think. However, all were yummy and amazing to me they started out as tree sap! I still don't know what I am going to order tho!! November 13, 2013
Great gift! I have bought this twice as a gift, hoping each time to learn the recipient's preference in maple syrup for future gifting. My brother-in-law, who grew up in New England but has lived most of his life far away from there, especially loved it. My son said he would sometimes go to the cupboard and just take a swig or two, to be sure he was finding the one he liked best! I was interested to learn both men prefer the darker Grade B! nice gift bringing this item to Germany as a gift to family. wish the glass bottles had a tiny bit of padding (like cardboard or tissue paper) in between, so they don't clink, and there are less changes of breaking during transport. December 10, 2012
unique gift item bought this for my sister for Xmas and she really liked it Have one for myself, too! December 8, 2012
