Rated 5 out of 5Â by "Book 'em" The Curse Of Opening Store Products
Being retired career law enforcement, I have always prided myself on my hand strength. However, being almost 85 now, for some unknown reason, I am finding kitchen products more difficult to open these days.
I am alone now, and all of my mechanical openers seem to have gone with my two former wives. Getting tired of using plyers, and vice grips to open simple kitchen products, I finally purchased a Gilhooly from you, both for practical and nostalgic reasons.
As good as the Gilhooly is, I felt that I needed a more simple tool for normal jar lids, so I also purchased this Twister Jar Opener. I should now be set for everything not encased in hard plastic, for which I currently am using heavy-duty scissors, and trying to avoid going to the hospital with wicked cuts.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Lovermont Favorite item from my childhood
This, along with our copper juice-o-matic, was a favorite item from my childhood home. There was one jar opener and four of us kids. My older brother took the jar opener, and as long as it didn't end up in a landfill I was happy, but I coveted one and would pop into antique stores from time to time, looking for a replacement. I was so happy to find this at the store several years ago! It is somewhat flimsier than the old one, but works very well. I have arthritis and I am so grateful to have it. My plan is to make sure my daughter takes it. Tradition!

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Doggie Mama Just Like the One Mama Had
My Mama had a jar opener just like this when I was growing up. As a child, I could open even the tightest jars. I don't have any idea what happened to it after she passed away because Daddy kept everything. I called my sister and brother and asked them if they took the jar opener. Neither did, so when I saw this one in your catalog, I had to order it. I like this opener better than any I've ever tried.

Rated 2 out of 5Â by Gerry5 Poorly engineered copy of excellent old product
We had one of the originals of these for years and it worked very well. When it wore out a couple of years ago we couldn't replace it so eagerly ordered yours when it became available. Sadly it doesn't work at all on smaller sized caps even though it is designed to adjust to those sizes. It could be that the gripper surfaces aren't sharp enough to properly grab small caps or more likely the gear mechanism is the wrong ratio. Unfortunately we don't have our original to compare. My theory is that the gear wheel is much too large in diameter to provide enough grip leverage for small caps. We didn't send it back because it works ok on larger caps.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Moose305 A Jar Opener that actually works
My Mom bought one of these, 65 years ago. My sister has it now; still working great. Over the years, I have tried and thrown out many openers that did not live up to their promise. I was delighted to see one in your online store.

Rated 3 out of 5Â by Tony1960 Well Made, but..
it doesn't work with the smaller plastic lids/caps (tried to open a 20 oz milk bottle without success).
For metal lids, it works well and make the opening process much easier.
And even though it is made in China, it appears to be well constructed of wood and metal.
