I wanted a coffee pot that I could use when the electric went out, as it did during the ice storm I experienced last February. (I plan to use a propane camping stove the next time there's no electricity). So I went to a variety of local stores and the pots were made of aluminum, one had a plastic view and one was a solid top. Only 2 stores out of many had a perculator. Then I thought of The Vermont Country Store...and sure enough there it was in the catalog. The rest is history, it's beautiful. Gleaming stainless steel, and a clear plastic viewer in the top
I'm glad there were directions enclosed which refreshed my memory for making perculated coffee.
Perked coffee does taste much better. I don't have any problems with the perculator except I had a difficult time trying to get the lid off the pot, I called the Vermont Store and the woman I spoke to was very pleasant and helpful, I think as time goes by it will loosen up.

I bought this coffee pot for my soon to be 92 year old mother to replace a similar pot she had had for years. She loves the way it brews and keeps the coffee nice and hot. Her only complaint is that when full, it is a bit on the heavy side for her. I don't drink coffee but was happy to be able to find her something that is familiar....like an old friend!

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Jimmy L Makes GREAT coffee!
I bought this stovetop percolator because a neighbor made coffee for years using one of these, and it was the best coffee ever. This percolator makes the same great coffee. My electric drip coffee maker will be collecting a lot more dust.

I purchased this coffee pot in January of 2013 because I was tired of coffee bags and didn't want to invest in one of those posh new coffee makers that brew one cup in a matter of seconds. I've used this coffee pot every morning until this week (Aug. 2014) when the spring broke. The first time I used the pot the plastic dome and ring became loose and didn't fit right anymore, I guess because of temperature change but, in spite of the loose fit it still performed well all this time. I definitely would recommend this pot to anyone who savors good percolated coffee and doesn't mind waiting for it.

Got tired of so-so coffee with a drip machine so tried this one. GREAT! The flavor of the coffee is so much better and it's hot! So glad I made the change.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by Enjoying Coffee Straightforward Coffee Brewing
Our old automatic drip coffee brewer started failing, and instead of investing in another auto drip, I wanted to try something simpler, something more straightforward. This stovetop percolator is well made, sturdy, and predictable. Exactly what I wanted.
My only complaint is the percolator "bulb" on the top is not glass. It started out as clear, heavy duty plastic. However, after a month of brewing, it is permanently brownish. We can still see through it, it's fully transparent, but stained brown, like a brown bottle rather than a clear one. That being said, the opening to the transparent bulb IS big enough to clean out with a finger (I was worried I'd have to use a pipe-cleaner or some makeshift item) to get it really clean. All of the parts, aside from the bulb on top and the black handle (which does stay nice and cool) are steel. Sturdy, easy to clean steel.
The included instruction book gives plenty of information on how to use the percolator to brew coffee to your liking. I would recommended using coarse/percolator grounds or a filter (either disc or fold-over) to keep the grounds from clogging the drainage holes during brewing.
