Just like the one Mom used to have This iron looks exactly like the one I used, when Mom taught me how to iron. It has some weight to it, which is nice (you don't have to use muscle to press down when ironing). Easy to refill with tap water. This beats the lightweight, more modern iron, that I've had for several years. March 27, 2013
Wanted to love this! I so wanted to love this iron. It looks just like the one my mother used when I was a child. But I was sadly disappointed. It's no heavier than my newer iron. Had to press down hard and still there were wrinkles. I'm going back to my other iron. This iron is made in China and only looks like the iron my mother used. February 19, 2013
Mom Loves It! Mom recently celebrated her 82nd birthday and the only gift she wanted was a "heavy" iron. We shopped from store to store...rejecting everything displayed. That's when I spied the advertisement for this iron. Ever seen an 82 yr old giggle with excitement over an iron? She wanted to end the birthday celebration and get right down to ironing! It's not my mother's iron I was so excited to see online the Classic Steam Iron like your mother's. I'm 63 yrs. old so I know how heavy my mother's iron was, and it also doesn't steam like my other irons. The only thing that I see that's like my mother's iron is that it looks just like my mother's iron. I'm very sorry about this review but I don't want someone else to get excited about something and it's not true. January 13, 2013
My mom's iron My husband does his own ironing. Whenever we visit his mom and he uses her old iron, he says he wishes we had a big heavy iron like that and our iron doesn't iron clothes that well. When my mother-in-law told me that Vermont Country Store carries the old style heavy irons, I ordered one immediately for him for Christmas! I can't wait until Christmas morning when he opens it up. Thank you! December 11, 2012
Hooray! Steam irons these days aren't hefty enough to put some muscle into ironing. This one has the weight I wanted, as well as the steam and heat settings! I thought the heavier ones were gone forever! WONDERFUL that they are still around--at Vermont Country Store! November 14, 2012
