It started in Saratoga Springs, New York, back in the early 1880s. A pig, revered as a symbol of good health, happiness, and prosperity, was made from hard peppermint candy. After a holiday supper, it was broken in a cloth bag and the pieces were shared by all in the hopes of good fortune for the coming year. Our 8 oz. peppermint pig comes with a red velvet bag and a metal hammer to start your own holiday tradition. This will make a delightful hostess gift that's sure to liven up a holiday party.

Disappointing The peppermint pig was cute, but had no flavor. January 3, 2015
Piggy in Japan Piggy went to my granddaughter in Japan. But, my granddaughter fears that piggy is just too cute to smash! December 25, 2014
When Pigs Fly... My family has traditionally 'smashed' a Peppermint Pig at Christmas or New Year's for many years, sharing our tales of good things in the year gone by for which we were grateful. When our daughter traveled across the country to spend last Christmas with our grand daughter and her new family she took with her on the plane a 'peppermint pig' to share with that family. We learned today that they enjoyed 'smashing the pig' so much last year, that they ordered a pig from you for this year and have begun the tradition in their family! December 25, 2014
After family Christmas dinner We all get to smash the pink pig and say what we are thankful for, then enjoy a peppermint treat December 10, 2014
Great gift Larger than I expected (I guess I'm not good at judging weights!) December 5, 2014
Starting a New Tradition So many of our older folks have passed away, and I find myself - at the ripe old age of 65 - as being the oldest member of the family. Soooo, I thought I'd add the "pig" as part of our after Christmas dinner tradition. And being the head of the family, thought I'd add my own twist to our otherwise quiet traditions. Plus, a nice taste of peppermint is always good after a meal. December 4, 2014
A New Family Tradition We were intrigued by the idea of the Peppermint Pig. We bought one for each of our married daughters, our best friend and ourselves. We used ours after Christmas dinner and asked everyone to remember their best Christmas memory ever. There were lots of tears and hugs. Thanks! January 3, 2014
Peppermint Pig I present this PIG to my allergist and his family each year. It has always been a tradition with his family, so this is my way to thank him for his great care of me. December 12, 2013

What Our Customers Are Saying about Our Peppermint Pig Set (8 oz. Pig, Hammer, Velvet Bag) …

"WHILE TAKING A PIECE EACH SHARES WHAT THEY WERE THE MOST GRATEFUL FOR DURING THE YEAR. THEIR COMMENTS ALWAYS AMAZE AND PLEASE ME, ESPECIALLY THE TEENAGERS." - JO, ACTON, ME

"The Peppermint Pig and the small the small piglets are two of our favorites. We started sending the little Peppermint Pig to our granddaughter the first time we saw it at The Vermont Country Store and she takes it to school to share with her classmates. Our granddaughter is now nine and this year, she was asked by five different students if she was going to once again bring the little Peppermint Pig. Of course, we always buy the large Peppermint Pig to share with relatives and friends in our home during the Christmas holidays." - Roger Friest, ,
