Back in 1782, Austrian emperor Joseph II banned crèches in churches, palaces, and public places. In response, people moved Nativity scenes into their homes, making them from paper, and paper nativities existed through the 1940s. We found this re-creation of a cutout version, portraying the Christmas story in vibrant realism. Sturdy, thick cardboard set contains 17 pieces, which easily assemble into a 27"Lx7 ½"Wx11 ½"H display.

  • Cardboard Nativity scene based on nativities that existed through the 1940s
  • 17 pieces assemble easily into a vivid scene
  • Paper Nativities started in 1782, when an Austrian emperor banned creches in public places

Beautifully detailed Nativity scene, made of 17 pieces of heavy-duty cardboard, evokes Old-World cutout nativities.

Christmas Memories Seeing this Nativity scene brought back many, many memories from my childhood. Setting up the scene every year was a precious family time. November 20, 2012
Unique Nativity Set I could not believe my eyes when I opened my catalog and saw the Christmas Manger Set. I had this manger set when I was a child (1950's) and for years it adorned the family fireplace mantle every Christmas. I kept it when I got married and proudly placed it in my home and later in my office at work. I kept it through moves from state to state and never saw another like it through the years. A few years ago I lost it in a flood and never thought I would see another. It is like a Christmas miracle to see it again. November 20, 2012
Beautifully Recreated This manger set is an exact duplicate of the one my parents had. Last year I was extremely happy to discover you offered this one and bought one set for myself and another for my brother. Our sister has the original which is still in fairly good shape considering that it was set it up on the mantel every year from the mid 40's until the mid 80's. As time went on we added more visitors to the scene; miniature dolls, dogs and cats, various livestock, little angels and even a toy fire engine. We still do that, with all three of the mangers we now have. It's part of the tradition! November 19, 2012

What Our Customers Are Saying about Our Christmas Manger Set …

"My parents bought this set about 50 years ago, and it has been set up every Christmas for as long as I can remember. The original box says the price was $1.00. I am very happy to see that the Manger set is still available. I had tried last year to buy another set but was unable to find one. My 2 nieces will be very happy to have a set each. Thank you." - Elaine Latour, Ville Platte, LA

"Mom was so excited to see this creche in the catalog. The one she had as a child and which I remember from my childhood as well has been lost. I'm going to surprise her for Christmas." - Ruth Swindell, Charleston, SC

"The Christmas Manger set was a gift to my oldest brother in the mid-forties when he was a baby. Stored in its original box, it was lovingly erected beneath our Christmas tree every year until 1993 when our mother passed away and the manger was passed along to my brother, its rightful owner. I have longed to have one for beneath my tree and you have made that possible. Thank you for making it available to me!!!!!!!" - Suzanne Kores, Miami, FL

"Hi ... We had the exact manger scene growing up in the 1960's. I had put it together and taken it apart so much that it finally just wore out. I thought I would never see it again! What a wonderful surprise to find that you folks had the exact same one! Thank you so much for carrying all the different items that you do; it's like Christmas every time I order from you." - Geoff Delp, Foley, MN

"I was so surprised to see this nativity in your catalog. We had this when growing up in the '60s and '70s. We didn't have all of the pieces to it, just parts of it. We had put it together so many times that it was difficult to put it all together. I am going to get it for my home this year. Thanks again. Our parents had it for many years." - Lois H., Albion, NE

"I was amazed to see this creche offered. I am 76 and had one in Michigan as a child. I loved it then and am truly thrilled to have one of these lovely cutout scenes again." - jerrie keyes, tampa, FL

"This Manger scene is just beautiful and bigger than I imagined. I set it up on a buffet in the dining room and added battery-operated tea lights hidden behind the central figures and it glows! A treasure like I grew up with!" - Bay, Newport Beach, CA

"I loved this set as it was set up each Christmas when I was a child in the 50s. When I left home, I took it with me and have put it out each Christmas also. The tabs are getting ragged making it hard to put together, so I am delighted to get another set so that my original can be saved! I have looked for a replacement for a number of years; thank you for making it available." - Joan, Las Vegas, NV

"I cannot begin to tell you how extremely happy I was to find the Manger Set in your catalog like my father and mother gave me in the 40s. I still have the one they gave me, but I have searched and searched for a new one as the old one is feeble . My father was a minister for 70 years, and he gave these Christmas Manager Sets out to families as long as he could find them. Merry Christmas to you!" - Joan Broadway, Kinston, NC

"Like your other testimonials, my sister and I grew up in Illinois with this under our tree each year. I still have it, but no box, and if your set is exactly the same, there is a hole behind the star to put a Christmas bulb in and shine on the manager. Makes me want to decorate for Christmas right in the middle of the heat wave we are having here in Alabama." - Joan O, Auburn, AL
