Customer Suggested Product

Immensely popular in the 1950s, these caroler candles have been sorely missed since disappearing from the market years ago. We're able to make them once again, just like the originals. They look festive on a table, mantel, or any area that's in need of a little holiday cheer. We recommend buying two sets, one to burn and one to cherish.

  • Limited supply
  • Look just like the ones you had while growing up
  • Each measures 3" tall

The spirit of Christmas past burns brightly with these traditional caroler candles.

christmas past growing up we always had these carolers on our mantle. we did not have a fire place, so we turned a book case around, covered it with brick paper and made the flames out of construction paper. the caroler candles always went on the mantle that we covered with cotton. one of my favorite memories May 27, 2013
Christmas Memories Growing up in the 50's and 60's, my mother and grandmother both had these caroler candles. My mother decorated our mantle with them, along with the Nativity set every Christmas, until her death in 1983. I continued the tradition, decorating for my father, until his death in 1999. I then inherited my mother's candles and have used them every Christmas, first on our mantle, now in a display on our china cabinet. My display includes some of my grandmother's and aunt's carolers. As we were decorating this Christmas, my 18 year old daughter, to my surprise and delight, stated she would like to start her own collection decorating her room. Next Advent when we are decorating, I will pull these out for my daughter for a surprise. January 21, 2013
Long Ago I remember these sweet cherubs from my childhood and wanted to get them for my 87 year mom - upon opening them I realized that with some/most things you can never go back. I remember them being a rich solid white, with golden hair, and a bit larger than these. A "good" immitation though and still sweet. January 18, 2013
Product is poor quality The picture online looked just like the ones my mother had when I was a child. However, when I received these, I discovered the quality was very poor - heads had very little color - almost white like the shirts. The rest of the painted detail was poorly done as well. They aren't flesh tone like the photo, but are as close to the original as I have seen For the price, the skin color could be a lot better, but overall I am happy with my purchase because it brings back happy memories. As long as you don't stare at the candles and focus on how snow white they are rather than flesh tone and the lack of hair color, you should be happy. Just don't put them where people can see them up close, and it will be ok. The box they come in is great to store them in too. Nice touch. January 7, 2013
Very disappointed I wish I had read the reviews before I bought these. They look nothing like the picture in the catalog. Very disappointed with the quality. January 5, 2013
Straight out of our childhood. These little candles bring back many wonderful memories of Christmas and family. January 4, 2013
ITEM NOT AS PICTURED THIS ITEM IS NOT AS PICTURED-THE HEADS ON THE CANDLES ARE FLESH COLORED JUST AS I REMEMBERED THEM . WHEN I RECIEVED THEM THE HEADS WERE ALL WHITE.TOO MUCH TROUBLE TO SEND BACK.THE PICTURE SHOULD BE ACCURATE .VERY DISSAPOINTED WITH THIS PURCHASE January 2, 2013

What Our Customers Are Saying about Our Caroler Candles (Pkg. of 3) …

"Fifty two years ago, as a new teacher of elementary school children I bought my first two 'candle choir' members. I paid ten cents each for them. Since then I have added steadily to my 'choir' until I have reached the size noted in the picture. My two children grew up with them and still look for them as do our grandchildren when they come to visit. It is good to know that these little choir persons are available once more. Perhaps this little note will encourage some of your customers today to start a new tradition." - Marie Schilling, Clifton Park, NY

"My Nana always has the choir candles out for Christmas so when I saw them in your catalog I had to buy them for my sisters and me. Can't wait to share more of your items with them." - June Natoli, Plainsboro, NJ

"As I was looking through your catalogue I started to cry when I got to the page with the caroler and angel candles—at first I didn't even realize why. Then it came to me: My mother, who passed away when she was only 55, was really into decorating our home for Christmas and every year we had those candles on our mantle. Every time I page thorugh the catalogue I see soemthing else from my childhood!" - Michele George, Allentown, PA

"As a child, every Christmas my sister & I would receive a different set of these candles. Soon we had a whole village. Sadly, they were stored in the attic one summer, and the following Christmas we discovered them warped and mis-shapened. How thrilling to see them again!" - Pat DiTata, Poland, NY

"When I saw these in your catalog several years ago, I had to get them. I'm a singer in my church choir, and I'd been wanting some carolers for Christmas decorations. Also, as a child of the 1960s, I'm particularly attracted to decorations from around then anyway, and these looked familiar. When my father saw them Christmas Day, he told me that his parents had had them years ago! Since my grandparents are both gone now, these little candles are a connection to them, and to my childhood." - Vivian Campbell, Pittsburgh, PA

"My mother gave me her set of caroler candles a few years ago (5 remaining) since I had small children and she knew they would enjoy them as I had as a child. My parents' home burned to the ground a couple years ago and we lost many treasures... some quite valuable, most purely sentimental. I'm very thankful that my little carolers managed to avoid that inferno. Last year we moved to Northern California and as I was decorating for Christmas I unpacked a box of candles I had stored in an attic of our new home that were a melted mess because temperatures over 100* outside were intensified underneath an uninsulated black asphalt tile roof. I assumed that the little carolers were lost to this dry inferno. Later I was so thrilled to find them safely tucked into a box of odd items that had been stuffed into a closet within the safety of our air-conditioned house. I've always wanted to add more to my little choir, so thank you for finding these little gems." - Barbara, Redding, CA

"I'm ordering these for my daughter who remembers the ones we had when she was a young child that had been her dad's when he was young." - Doris D Smith, Oklahoma City, OK

"As a child, my mother always had these candles out for Christmas as part of her decorations lovingly placed around the house with our assistance. Unfortunately, I was always a curious child and soon found that the little black painted eyes would come off if scratched with my fingernail. My mother forgave me and she helped me repaint the eyes on but I never forgot the look of disappointment in her eyes, and I believe it made me a better person as she taught me to think first before I act. It's something I have to remind myself to do to this day in my 60th year!" - Dorothea Cassady, Fitchburg, MA

"My Mother, who will be 89 in January, has had these candles for as long as I can remember. I'm 64! Her candles are not straight and tall anymore...because of being on a mantle over heat and they look like they are swaying as they sing. I've sent them to all my children and her grandchildren for a sweet memory. I also sent the Thanksgiving candles of three, the pilgram boy, girl and turkey." - Dottie, Bastrop, LA

"My Mother put these on the mantle in our family home. I have very fond memories of them." - Jane Riendeau, Taunton, MA

"I remember that my mother gave these cute candles to me each year to set out on a piece of white felt with multicolored glitter pieces in it. It was a very important job to arrange the caroler candles and Santa and angel candles. These are a wonderful reminder of those old-fashioned days gone by!" - Lana Jones, Carson City, NV

"A treasured memory of my childhood, and so happy to have them again and to give as gifts." - GAYLE HANSON, HILLIARD, OH

"My mother had these candles when I was growing up. I loved them. She also had the other ones that are shown here. I looked forward to putting them out every Christmas. When I saw them, I was over the moon. I have such fond memories of those candles while growing up." - Mary Ann Shopp, Punta Gorda, FL

"My mother always put these out with some fresh evergreens each year on our buffet. If I recall, when she first purchased them in the '50s, she had six children. She had each of our names written on the label on the bottom of the candles. We would sometimes play with them when she wasn't looking. Later my two younger sisters were born in the early '60s, but I don't think she ever got to add to the set. This is pure nostalgia. Cindy Jordan, Ohio" - Cynthia Jordan, Kettering, OH

"I loved these when I was little. My parents have a set of these on the mantel and I always wanted to be able to put them out when I was little, not realizing that they had been my grandmother's! They are a big part of my childhood memories from Christmas, and I have been looking for a set so I can pass the memories on to my children. They make me smile every year when I see them at my parents' house." - Eileen, Detroit, MI

"The first year our parents were married -- 1947 -- our mother purchased their first caroler candle in Woolworth's for 2 cents and continued to purchase carolers at least two a year until Woolworth's closed. In 1949 our mom purchased the large male caroler and her first girl caroler. Since our parents passed away, we four sisters share the collection. Whoever is hosting Christmas gets to display the collection. There are more than 50 carolers in three sizes, different positions, different color choir robes, etc. We love them and have even added to the collection with purchases from Vermont Country Store." - Marie Alfano, New Rochelle, NY

"They were a part of our first Christmases together (1960) and still grace our dinner table during the holidays. I know I didn't pay much for them because we didn't have very much money for decorations in those days. (They have held up really well to be 51 years old.)"-Hollins Wender, Knoxville, TN

"I purchased a set of carolers for our first Christmas as newlyweds back in 1972. They are still used today as part of our village scene along with a church made by my husband's grandfather during his retirement. I have since added several other wax pieces and learned that the original Gurly candles were made right in our hometown of Buffalo, NY. I love finding an original candle during my antiquing but am relieved to know I can purchase ones from the Vermont Country Store I can't find elsewhere. A great tradition is living on with your candles!" - Maureen, Fuquay Varina, NC
