A barrel of fun! My great grandfather owned a country store near Newfane and his barrel of Vermont Common Crackers was always prominently placed and had no shortage of takers. Fortunately one can still enjoy these versatile pieces of the past because The Vermont Country Store stocks them. Whether you just want something to tide you over until dinner or possibly to accompany a hot bowl of chowder these authentic pastries are deliciously ideal. December 16, 2014
As simple as it gets, and perfect This is the heartier version of a water cracker. A nice crunch on its own, or as a carrier for your favorite cheese or spread. Our family has eaten them with a little butter at teatime -- a light something to carry you until dinnertime. ...when you're just not in the mood for anything sweet. December 14, 2014
Absolutely the best with oyster stew. My father (born 1902) always told me that saltine crackers were not "real" crackers. I always wondered how a saltine could servive the trip west in a barrel. My husband is from Vermont and grew up with common crackers. Now I know what both my dad and husband were talking about. December 10, 2014
I LOVE these crackers This was the second time I purchased the crackers and I am so sorry they aren't available here. But then, it may be a good thing they aren't, or I'd be snacking on them all the time. They have a great taste and go with a lot of things but I enjoy them mostly just on their own. Rest assured each time I shop at Vermont Country Store, they will be on my shopping list and now that I have the tin, I only need to purchase the refills! Yum! April 15, 2014
disappointed with the taste of cheese I bought the cheese common crackers and while they were certainly fresh the cheese taste is quite disappointing in that it is very faint and tastes as if the cheese flavoring is rather bland and "old" as in not first class and I dont mean aged. Maybe it was the particular batch but it was not pleasant. One cannot tell whether it is supposed to be cheddar or another type of cheese. Since Vermont is known for cheddar I was expecting something rather spectacular in flavor. Not so. The plain crackers are superb in a chowder, with cheese or butter, peanut butter and jam. I bought the two sizes and I will order in the future. They are fresh and just perfect and what a cracker should be.I love them March 17, 2014
What are these again? Not sure exactly what a "common" cracker is, but the bite size crackers taste like a fat, hard, saltine cracker. Regrettably, the cheese crackers were awful. I ended up throwing them away. Maybe if a cracker is not something that one dips in salsa, we Texans just don't know what to do with it. March 4, 2014
the perfect cracker I recently bought a few boxes of these crackers. I already have the beautiful tin that I kept as a keepsake from an amazing trip to Vermont to celebrate my 50th birthday. I love, love, love everything about Vermont. The common crackers are great with cheese, soup and just everything. Thank you to the Vermont Country Store for great items from the past and fun new stuff too! February 27, 2014
The best crackers ever! These crackers are SO good - always crisp and are marvelous with soups and stews. I've even dunked 'em in dips and am solidly hooked on the cheese variety. It's nice to know that old-fashioned quality still exists. Thank you, Orton Family, for continuing the tradition. January 28, 2014

What Our Customers Are Saying about Our Vermont Common Crackers …

"My mother grew up in Waitsfield, Vermont, and a favorite memory from her childhood (and beyond) was having a nice bowl of homemade soup with what she called "Montpelier crackers." Alas, she suffers from Alzheimers and while many of her memories have left her, she still remembers these so fondly. I was so happy to find them here at Vermont Country Store - I'm back to place a second order. The first were fantastic and just as she remembered her Montpelier crackers. Thank you, Vermont Country Store!!" - Teresa, South Salem, NY
