Rated 2 out of 5 by date nut bread I grew up loving this canned treat. I wish the price was about half as much as you have it . It is just not worth 8 dollars a can. I will really miss it , again ! September 17, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great and Delicious This brings back memories of similar bread that my mom backed when I was a child and later. it is a great way to start the day buttered and heated so it melts into the bread. April 29, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by UM UM When I was a little boy many years ago my mother got some date nut bread from a local store. Nobody I know around here makes it any more. There are a few things I wanted to share with my kids from my childhood like drive-in movies, dirt race tracks and more. Date nut bread with cream cheese was another. They went after it like a monkey with a banana. I also loved it very much because I have not had it since I was 8 yrs old...54 yrs ago. Thank you so much for a great memory and a very fine breakfast. Rated 4 out of 5 by Close to the original Only place that carried the product. Almost as good as I remember., however I believe it is overpriced for the product. January 13, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Powdery dry. I was expecting the bread to be very moist like the date-nut bread that used to come in a can that we could find at the local grocery. Instead, this bread is so dry it is almost powdery. Sort of like eating a spoonful of dry cocoa. January 7, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by A Memory of Mom at Christmas When I grew up in East Tennessee, date nut brown in a can was readily available on the store shelf. My mom, a whiz at making the simplest items elegant, sliced the bread, spread cream cheese on each slice; then she put 2 slices together, cut it in quarters and arranged them on a glass plate. I thought the dark, date color and ribbon of cream cheese was special. After I left home, and began my own family Christmas traditions, also on a shoe string budget, I included it with our Christmas Eve buffet menu. My teenage son fell in love with it! Every time I made the little quartered sandwiches, I would think of my mom and all that she gave us, especially the joy of making so much out of so little. Then 1 year, I couldn't find the canned date nut bread anywhere! I looked - every year, throughout the year - without fail. Then about 15 years ago I received my first VCS catalog (I have no idea why or from whom). I was so excited! and immediately ordered 4 cans, two for the Christmas buffet and two for my son's stocking! I still buy 2 cans for the holidays because I love it too and I want to keep it special. I haven't put it in his stocking for several years, but he is married now, so this year I think I'll just leave a couple of cans on his doorstep for their holiday celebrations. He'll know who it is from...All 4 of our children are out on their own now, so I'm going to give a can to each of the other 3, reminding them of my memories of my mom. Hopefully they will continue with the next generation. November 19, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Moist and sweet I'm a volunteer driver for seniors in our community and we talk about foods from our youths that we can no longer find. One 96 year old was on constant trail for date nut bread. No stores had it. I searched the Internet and VCS was the only place to find it. My friend was overjoyed to get the cans and she gave me a little to sample. I remembered date nut bread being more like a moist loaf of bread. This is more like a cake bread but still delicious and very satisfying with a good butter spread on top. The picture on the site and on the front of the can doesn't do it justice. It is darker and more moist than the picture. May 25, 2014

What Our Customers Are Saying about Our Date Nut Bread (Set of 2 Cans) …

"I occasionally buy from Vermont Country Store, but a friend of mine sent me the two cans of Date Nut Bread, and it was just as I remembered from my childhood, spread with cream cheese, and even better if you cut up some crystallized ginger in the cream cheese. I plan on sending some of these for Christmas this year . . . wonderful and moist." - Robert L. Turner, Atlanta, GA

"Date nut bread and cream cheese sandwiches were a lunchbox treat. I'm delighted to rediscover it after my store stopped carrying it." - Carol, Olney, MD

"My sister gave me a can of date nut bread 1 1/2 yrs. ago and I just found it at the back of my cabinet. It tasted as good as ever, especially with cream cheese mixed with pineapple bits. I used to eat at a tropical stand in West Palm Beach and they served it with a pina colada cooler. Wow, what memories!!!!!" - Sheila Conner, Gatlinburg, TN
