Suggested by Lane Bolton, New York, NY

In response to many suggestions, we re-created this culinary classic from the 1950s using our very own Vermont Cheddar, beer, heavy cream, and creamery butter. Made for us in Illinois. 12 oz. jar.

  • Made only for The Vermont Country Store
  • Our very own recipe is made with real Vermont Cheddar
  • Worcestershire sauce, mustard powder, pepper, and hot sauce give Welsh rarebit lots of flavor
  • Keep on hand in your pantry and enjoy any time

Open a jar of Welsh Rarebit, warm, and serve this tangy sauce over toast with bacon or tomatoes and enjoy.

BETTER THAN I CAN MAKE... No matter what recipe I use, and I'm a good cook, I cannot make Welsh Rarebit as good as this. Also, the jar is so convenient...you can use just half and it keeps well in the fridge. And, for a snack, I heat some and get out the old bread sticks! Yum! January 28, 2013
Christmas Tradition.... Throughout the years my husband talked about wanting to have a good Welsh Rarebit. I made several attempts at making it with underwhelming results. The grocery store carried a canned soup variety but it wasn't great. Two years ago I happened across jarred Welsh rarebit in the fall catalog. I bought one jar for Christmas. He loved it. Last year I bought 2 jars. This year, 6 jars to last through the year since it is only carried in the fall/winter. It makes wonderful 'comfort food' breakfast treat on hot toast and a strip of bacon. What Our Customers Are Saying about Our Welsh Rarebit …

"I can't make anything this delicious, and I'm a Rarebit fan. Best I've ever tasted. Served hot over toast with a slice of tomato with bacon bits on the top. Or, just open the jar and dip in bread sticks for an amazing snack!" - Bay, Newport Beach, CA

"For years my mom's and older sister's holiday breakfast staple was Welsh Rarebit served on thin Pepperidge Farm white bread. After they passed away, I attempted to prepare it from scratch like they did - what a disaster! Your product is so exactly like theirs, I treat myself to a new jar just for my Christmas morning treat. Since my husband and son don't care for it, I get to indulge as much as I want - thank you!!"- Laurie, Gillette, NJ

"My mom used to make this for me when I was a kid in Massachusetts. She'd heat it up in a saucepan and put it on toast with a slice of fresh tomato and a couple slices of bacon. Nothing better!" - Henry Owen, Charleston, IL
