Made by hand in small batches, our Hunter cheese is patiently aged for 2 years and satisfies the palates of strong cheese lovers with its robust flavor tempered by a smooth creaminess. If you love the tangy sharpness of aged cheddar, you will swoon over our Hunter cheese with a nuttiness and buttery texture punctuated with delicate granular crystals. A true Vermont heritage cheese, our Hunter cheese is made for us by one of the oldest cheese producers in the United States, founded in1890 by John Coolidge, the father of our 30th president, Calvin Coolidge. In fact, this robust, cheddar-like cheese was one of the original cheese varieties offered in our Weston store in the 1940s and was also eaten by hunters and gamesmen of yesteryear before heading off to deer camp.
