Tradition Continues As a boy in Pennsylvania, it was a tradition to get "clear toys" for Christmas. These unique candies were usually shaped as Santa or reindeer and were on a stick like a lollipop. The unique barley sugar flavor of the candies were limited to only one or two small shops that made them, and while there were lots of copies, only the original had that unique flavor. Over the years I have lost track of them but seeing the ad at Vermont Country store I decided to take a chance. Sure enough they were the real thing and another childhood memory was revived. Clear Toy candy I haven't had Clear Toy candy for ages!! It has that "soft" quality to the sweetness. I think that is from the barley water. Love the stuff! Aside from that the service was excellent. The box came when they said it would and I couldn't be happier with my purchase! January 4, 2013
OLD Fashioned clear barley candies I received this item so I could share the wonderful memory of these clear candies with my family and friends for stocking stuffers, etc. My experience with Vermont Country store has always been very good with the assurance of quality products over the 25+ years I've been shopping. When I opened these toy candy containers, everything was broken with the candy dust stuck to the broken pieces. I couldn't even recognize what forms they were. They are certainly not what I expected. Old-fashioned treat for a modern person. I enjoy barley-sugar candy; once it's broken into small mouth-sized pieces it makes a delicious long-lasting treat to suck on while reading. It even makes paying the bills less distasteful. December 5, 2012
The Best Memory from My Childhood - FANTASTIC! These 'toys' were my all-time favorite growing up. I've been looking for these for years but never found them until now.
