Though Vermont may not have a seacoast of its own, the folks who make our savory chowders in Maine sure do, and they understand what it takes to make great-tasting New England chowders. They use only the finest and freshest ingredients to give these chowders a hearty, homemade flavor that will satisfy the most discriminating palates. The fish chowder, a favorite dish of JFK, is made with Alaskan pollock along with potatoes, onion, and seasoning. The lobster corn chowder contains tasty minced lobster meat and corn kernels, while the salmon chowder is made with bits of Alaskan salmon. Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Clam Chowder OK...so my adult sons both love New England Clam Chowder. I needed a little something to finish up their Christmas gifts and thought this would be a good idea. Well...it was. They loved it. January 11, 2017
Rated 5 out of 5 by LOVE FISH CHOWDER When I lived in Maine and CT my Soup of Choice was Fish Chowder. I left there in 1972 and have NOT had any since. I had been dreaming of my Fish Chowder, and had decided that IF I didn't find any soon, I would have to make it. I DO have a New England Cook Book with the Recipe, but I do NOT like to cook UNLESS I have to. Thankfully The Vermont Store Catalog came to me here in Tucson, Arizona and I found it and sent for 3 cans. Now I am in heaven. Thank You! January 11, 2017
Rated 2 out of 5 by You Don't Always Get What You Pay For I ordered two cans of the Vermont Country Store clam chowder and one can of their salmon chowder to be given as a Christmas present to my spouse who's from Bellows Falls originally. I was surprised to find that all three cans were dented to one extent or another when I opened the box they came in. I called to let them know I really don't like the idea of giving dented cans as a Christmas gift, and the company was gracious enough to send replacements. I'll give them that. After Christmas, I opened a can of the clam chowder and followed the instructions on the label to prepare the contents. We had the chowder. Verdict? Very disappointing. The texture was somewhat watery compared, for example, to Snow's or even Campbell's clam chowder. On top of that, it wasn't very flavorful. The salmon chowder was equally disappointing. I paid quite a bit for each can of chowder, much more than I pay for Campbell's! This experience proved to me that you don't always get what you pay for. January 11, 2017
Rated 1 out of 5 by HORRIBLE I purchased a total of six cans in order to try different varieties and then re-order what I liked. Today I tried the Lobster Corn Chowder. Although I ordered the "no salt" version, even ADDING salt and pepper (had to add quite a bit) it was horrible. There was no lobster AT ALL, not even tiny pieces. There about five kernels of corn but plenty of diced potatoes with no flavor whatsoever. January 10, 2017
Rated 1 out of 5 by Thin soups I tried the condensed clam chowder and lobster corn chowder. Both were thin when mixed with half and half. With the cream and 2 tbsp. of butter added, the clam chowder tasted just OK. The lobster corn chowder had no discernable lobster (the ingredients listed minced lobster), and very little corn. It was mostly a thin puree. I've had much better and cheaper from grocery stores. Very disappointing. December 7, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Chowder nuts My husband and I love chowder. Buying the Lobster chowder was the best. I opened two cans of it and then found out that you also add milk. Well, we had enough chowder for two days. I served it with toasted sandwiches and it was so good my husband asked if we had more chowder for the rest of the winter. I said I did and will be ordering more. It is just fantastic. February 15, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best of the best I've had lots of clam chowder but this is the best of any I've had in any restaurant. I order it two or three times a year. February 15, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Delicious! We gave this a try when we visited the Rockingham store for the first time last year. My husband absolutely loved it - the flavor is great, and it had a lot of clams. As a result, I decided to purchase more online and make up gift bags of Vermont Country Store foods as Christmas gifts. It was a big hit. I am about to go online and order more of this chowder to keep in the house. It's definitely the best canned clam chowder you can buy. January 11, 2016
