Amaze Your Friends I own three spinner ornaments I inherited from my parents and a couple others I picked up at an antique sale. They still work but I don't like to use them much because they are old and delicate. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw The Vermont Country Store selling new ones this year and immediately ordered two packages of two spinners each. They arrived in perfect condition, very carefully packaged to protect the delicate spinner inside. They were basically identical to the antique spinners in both size and shape. I then tested how well they spun by hanging each one over a C7 Christmas bulb. One worked perfectly, one wouldn't spin at all and the other two needed a tap to get them started but would soon stop spinning. I gave each spinner a small squirt of dry powder graphite lubricant (extra fine), the type used to lubricate locks, in hopes of fixing them. They worked perfectly afterward so I ordered three more sets. Five of the six also needed lubrication but then spun up a storm. Friends and relatives are amazed to see the spinner ornaments spinning. While they bring back nostalgic memories in older people, younger people who have never seen such things before think they are a cool new creation of twenty first century technology. January 1, 2014
Old Fashioned Christmas I ordered these because they reminded me of my childhood and because they were my wife's favorites when she was a child. The are a faithful reproduction but they don't work. I used the old style C7 light bulbs on my tree and placed these directly over the light bulb so the heat would pass upwards and through the opening supposedly to make the spinner spin. It did not no matter what I did. January 1, 2014
