Barclay Sleigh Set 5 5 1 1
Re-Building my Dad's Lionel layout Over the past few years I have bought several Barclay's figurines to augment the originals I have from my father's train layout which dates to 1938. I now have the room and time to reproduce that era and will be doing so in part with my newly purchased Barclay's. July 1, 2014

What Our Customers Are Saying about Our Barclay Sleigh Set …

"When I was growing up in the 50's I took for granted our Christmas village..the board made by my grandfather..with electricity to allow for lighted glitter houses..and the metal figures..skaters, skiers, horsedrawn sleighs....I inherited this set..and treasure it but many of the figures were broken or the paint was chipped off faces...so I was happy to see that Vermont Country Store carried a new line of these...authentically reproduced..in detail....I am adding to my village once again ...piece by piece..my daughter is starting her own collection...these figures appear to be an exact duplicate of the ones from the 40's...what a unique find!!" - Janet Noonan, Calumet City, IL

"When I saw the "Horse Drawn Sleigh" and the "Ice Skaters" in the advertisement it brought back so many memories of Christmas as a young child. My father had these as part of our Christmas Display every year as far back as I can remember. I'm 63 now. I have them now and even though we have a ceramic village display there is a place for these pieces every year. They have endured over the year and maybe have a few marks but they will always have a part of our Christmas and will be passed down to my children/grandchildren." - Marciana Sorrentino, Pittsburgh, PA

"I was so thrilled when I saw VCS carrying these figurines. The ones we used to set up on top of the piano every year got ruined in a basement flood. I plan to collect all the pieces and start over again. Thanks, Vermont Country Store!" - Jennifer, Boston, MA

"Thank you so much for making these for me. You heard my wishes! I've been searching all over the Internet for these Barclay figures for years. They were such an integral part of my Christmas for years and years. I'm 65 now and have been thinking about the skaters, the pond, and the horsedrawn sled for too many years to mention. Thank you! Pam" - Pam Hughes, Plano, TX

"Every year as a child, I would get to visit my great-grandmother's home. It was a step back in time to the 1920s: heavy velvet furniture, a player piano, and the big Christmas tree that stood in the bay window. Under the tree was a magic village that I adored. The ice skaters seemed frozen in a beautiful time on their skating ponds. The skiers came down a mountain at lighting speed yet fixed forever in their sights. My wonder at seeing this great display was boundless as a child. I was told that the display started with the turkey in front of the church, because he was given his pardon at Thanksgiving, so he was there at Christmas, too. There were lots of Santas and people on benches, strolling along and enjoying the day. Years later I found out that nearly all pieces were made by Bryer in the 1930s and 1940s. Some pieces are not Bryer and predate the Bryers. Some were added later as well. It all still holds a lot of magic." - Victoria Mathis, Springfield, MO

"Thank you so much for answering my request ! You will never know how much your efforts have made me so happy! I have had the old set since the '40s . . . I was a tiny child, so the skaters were me and my daddy. The two in the sleigh were my mommy and Grandpa. As I was an only child, the boy with the sled was my neighbor. My parents always took me skating outside on a specific pond. So this little scene brings back warm, wonderful memories. After all these years my horse's leg has been cleverly reattached with black electrical tape, and one runner of the sleigh has also been molded with tape! Ha ha! Again, thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You are truly like Santa, making everyone's wishes and dreams come true!" - Susie Vendely, Indianapolis, IN
