Mom and dad liked to methodically apply each piece of tinsel strand by strand. We kids liked to throw them in clumps until things got out of hand. Those more sophisticated blew them from their palms onto the tree (although this could end in a round of silliness too). Anyway you put it, no tree is complete without the original metallic tinsel of our youth. Hard to come by, it's still around, made in Austria by the original manufacturer for the past 100 years. Each strand is approx. 18". The average 5-6 ft. tree takes 6 packages (depending on personal taste), or one package per 1-2 ft. of tree. Sold in sets of 3.

  • Heavier than today's tinsel, "Austrian icicles" hang better than tinsel sold in discount stores

This is the best! I have been looking for real tinsel for many years. I gave this a try and hoped it was the "real"kind. It is! It is really metal, it hangs beautifully and refracts just like real ice cycles...I am so happy I found this. I had enough with the 3 packets to do our 9 ' tree beautifully. tinsel I love this old fashioned tinsel and Vermont Co store is the only place i have been able to find it. One issue -- this comes in a flat package that would fit into a business size envelope. while I order a number of packets of it, it was shipped in an enormous box!! wasting cardboard, packing paper to fill the box, postage and the energy needed by a truck to deliver what could have been slipped into an 8 1/2 x 11 brown envelope or smaller! My Search is Over! I have been looking for the "old-time tinsel for 30 years. The tinsel I have is slowly dying over time. Now I have an addition to it and no one was able to tell the "old" from the "new." Thank you so much for sending the catalog! authentic This is the tinsel you had as a child. The kind that made the Christmas tree come alive with a million silver stars. It hangs easily and does not fly away like the more modern 'icicles'. It can be reused as it does not knot easily. The three boxes are more than enough. I will be enjoying this tinsel for many years to come! December 26, 2012
Old fashion tinsel This IS the tinsel that I remember from my childhood Christmases ( late 1950's-1960's) I hate today's tinsel, it does not hang right, it gets static electricity, and "blows" all over the place when you walk by the tree. Thank you Vermont Country Store !! December 9, 2012
Been looking for this product for years I love the look of the old fashioned Christmas tree tinsel but have been unable to find anything close to the heaviness of the original product from my childhood. I've been searching the internet for a few years now without success until I happened to see this tinsel at TVCS. I placed it on my tree today, and it's exactly what I've been hoping to find. Although each package seems small, it actually covers quite a bit of the tree and you need less to get an impact because of the heaviness of the product. November 30, 2012
