Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200—if you don't invest in this reproduction of the game that taught us that buying and selling real estate is a good thing. This 1935 replica Monopoly (the year the game was introduced) strikes all the right notes: a heavyweight game board with the original artwork; Chance and Community Chest cards illustrated with the 1935 designs; and all the original tokens in silver-tone metal. A great gift. For ages 8 and up.

  • Houses and hotels are wooden, not plastic
  • All artwork replicates the original from the first edition of this popular game

Rated 5 out of 5 by This is a reproduction of the Second Edition. First Edition was purchased in two parts, half-size box and board. My Mom bought a "First Edition" when it came out (she was 14 at the time) and related the story, to us many times. We wore out the money, lost many houses, and had lots of fun, but we always had the half-size box with the separate board. I always loved that old box, and I told Mom I wanted to inherit it someday, but sometime in the 21st century, she forgot and threw out what was left of the 1935 game, or my sister threw it out while going through the estate. I can easily agree with every good memory in the nine previous "stories." The wood houses always felt better than the plastic. Of course, I memorized the rents, and I fondly remember all of our discussions about what we could, and could not, do. The rules did NOT say that we could not put $500 on free parking, so sometimes we did. I believe that Monopoly helped me build my math skills, but it did not always help me get along with my brother and sister. Sometimes we got very creative with the rules. In the eighties, my ex-wife, the kids, and I were in the middle of a long game, but the end had become obvious. Mathematically, I could see that I would win and that my step-daughter would lose, so I made the convoluted offer that included good sets and some cash to her, and some junk coming back to me. She accepted the offer needless to say. The moment she accepted the offer, her brother said, "What did you do?" I asked him, before I made this deal, who was going to win? who was going to lose?" He correctly identified that me and his sister were the answers. I then said, "And now who's going to win?" He answered that he didn't know. My final question to him was, "Did I make the right decision?" ***** THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES ***** May 29, 2015

Rated 5 out of 5 by Loads of fun and a whole lot of memories. This game was bought as a Christmas gift. I know the family that it was purchased for, and know that they will have many hours of fun! I am considering purchasing the game for my family, as our Monopoly game is in tatters from being played so often. Thanks for the memories! December 30, 2013
