The Vermont Country Store, Weston, Vermont

Weston, Vermont

Stroll through the Village of Weston, with its quintessential village green and white-steepled churches, and you'll immediately understand why the entire town, as well as The Vermont Country Store and its Bryant House restaurant, are on the National Register of Historic Places. This picturesque community is home to Vermont's oldest professional live theater, the Weston Playhouse, presenting Broadway hits every summer and fall just as it has beeen since 1937. Step into the past and visit Weston's museums - the Farrar-Mansur House, the Old Mill, and the Craft's Building - and learn how 18th and 19th century families lived in this small, quaint mountain town.

The Vermont Country Store

When Vrest Orton opened the doors of The Vermont Country Store in 1946, it was the first restored rural store in the nation and it stocked thousands of practical and intriguing necessities for daily living. Today, amid countless antiques and oddities from floor to rafters, you'll still discover long-forgotten essentials. It's all here: from apothecary goods to old-time toys, from granny forks to 30° below socks, from memorable brands such as Tangee lipstick and Charles Chips to new products that also are useful, work, and make sense in today's world. Broadway in Vermont? Yes!

When you are visiting our original store in Weston, VT, this summer, do catch a show at the Weston Playhouse. Calling it "superior to the full-scale version that was seen on Broadway," the Wall Street Journal's theater critic cited a Playhouse production as one of the two best musicals he saw last year.

"Dine at our Bryant House Restaurant, walk across the Village Green (my childhood house, where my mother still lives, is on the left), then enjoy theater that is truly world-class."
