During the time of year when it's tradition to spend time with family, we, as a family-owned business, sure hope you'll spend some time with us. For in a very real way, we think of all of you as part of our bigger family, especially at Christmas.
Before you dismiss that as hopelessly hokey, read on and I'll explain why.
You see, Christmas has a special place in our hearts and in our store history. It was the Christmas of 1945 that my father, Vrest Orton, started the business with my mother Ellen by printing up our first catalogue—just 12 pages and 36 products—in our garage and mailing it to the folks on their Christmas card list. I was only five at the time, but I remember the big machine and its moveable type well. Just a few years ago we found it again—but that's a story for another day.
Back to the Christmas Card Catalogue. The response was so great to that first holiday offering, my parents opened the Weston store the next spring. So it is absolutely true that our friends and family were our first customers—which is probably why we have always treated our customers as our family and friends.
Which is our promise to you this holiday season. Look through these pages, visit our website, come to our two Vermont stores (and if you do, make sure you ask if any of us is around—we'll be happy to chat). You'll find gifts of great value, gifts we would give our own family.
So come on in, enjoy, and join in the family spirit. Our family sends yours the warmest wishes for a happy holiday.
